This policy applies to users worldwide. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

Information you provide directly. This may include account registration details such as your name, email address, login credentials, language preferences, learning goals, saved content, flashcards, progress, practice responses, translations, chat messages, uploaded or selected text, audio recordings or samples used for pronunciation and speech features, and communications you send us.

Information collected automatically. When you use the Services, we may collect technical and usage information such as device type, operating system, browser type, app version, IP address, approximate location derived from IP address, session length, crash reports, diagnostic data, screens or pages viewed, and feature interactions.

Information from third parties. If you sign in using a third-party service such as Apple or Google, we receive information permitted by that service and your privacy settings. We may also receive subscription, purchase, and entitlement information from app stores, payment processors, or subscription management providers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Create and manage accounts.
  • Personalize your learning experience.
  • Provide AI, translation, speech, pronunciation, reading, and language-learning features.
  • Save progress, preferences, conversations, flashcards, and other learning data.
  • Process subscriptions, purchases, and account entitlements.
  • Respond to requests, questions, support inquiries, and feedback.
  • Send service-related communications such as account updates, security alerts, and policy notices.

  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms and policies.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, or another jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing personal information, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the Services you request, manage your account, process subscriptions, and deliver core app functionality.
  • Legitimate interests: to improve, secure, analyze, and support the Services, prevent fraud and abuse, and develop new features, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent: where required, such as for certain cookies, optional marketing communications, microphone access, speech features, or other optional features.
  • Legal obligations: to comply with applicable laws, tax, accounting, regulatory, security, and legal requirements.

4. How We Share Information

We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers. We work with trusted vendors that help us operate the Services, such as cloud hosting, authentication, databases, analytics, crash reporting, payment processing, subscription management, customer support, email delivery, translation, AI, speech, and security providers. These providers may process information only as needed to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.

AI, translation, and speech providers. Some features may send content you submit, such as text, chat messages, translations, or audio samples, to providers that help generate responses, translations, explanations, transcription, pronunciation feedback, or similar language-learning features.

App stores and payment providers. If you make purchases through an app store or payment provider, your transaction is also subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy.

Legal requirements and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of Mamu Labs, our users, or others.

Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

With your consent or direction. We may share information for other purposes when you give us permission or direct us to do so.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We may use cookies, local storage, pixels, software development kits, and similar technologies to support core functionality, keep you signed in, remember preferences, analyze usage, diagnose crashes, improve performance, and protect the Services.

Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and mobile platforms may provide additional controls for app permissions and tracking. Disabling certain technologies may affect how the Services function.

6. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, prevent fraud or abuse, and enforce our agreements.

Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and why we collected it. For example, we generally retain account information while your account is active, transaction records as required for tax and accounting purposes, and support communications for a reasonable period to resolve issues and maintain business records.

When information is no longer needed, we delete, de-identify, or anonymize it.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@mamulabs.com.
